Sunflower Seed Pods, Late Fall, NM

Sunflower seed pods, late Fall, sustenance for the Finches and Pine Siskins showing up in large numbers right now in San Cristobal. I supplement the natural bird feed with wild bird seed in the feeders. Thanks for looking. As cold as it is getting at night, I hope you are enjoying Fall where you are. G

Milky Way From The Deck, San Cristobal

Milky Way from the deck in San Cristobal, New Mexico. We stepped outside to see the crescent moon. The stars in the Milky Way were so bright, and Jupiter was dominating the sky above the house. The ambient light in the clouds on the horizon is from Taos. The grasses and trees are lit by a quick flick of the flashlight. I’m always inspired by the night sky in northern New Mexico where we live, some times to make an image and other times to just stand in awe. Thanks for looking. G

Lightning Storm, Taos New Mexico

Lightning storm, Taos, New Mexico. I set up on the deck in San Cristobal last night. I’d been watching the lightning filling the clouds on the horizon from my chair in the living room. The number of flashes intensified. The storm was far away so there were no discernible sounds of thunder. As things would have it, the sheet lightning I’d originally observed turned to direct strikes on the landscape. Here are the images of multiple “blasts”. Thanks for looking. G

Monsoon, San Cristobal Valley

Monsoon, San Cristobal Valley. Before the unleashing and the lightning strike that made my hair stand on end. It was quite a downpour that followed and there is a large waterfall in the Rio Grande Gorge in this same spot where I shot this image in 2008. Monsoon season has been on again off again, but todays storm made up for it. Thanks for looking. G

Rainbow Rain San Cristobal

Rainbow rain, San Cristobal. It was a true ground soaker day of rain yesterday. The sun vanished about 2pm and didn’t return until this moment around 8pm. The air and ground and grasses where pristine following the rain. My car is also nice and clean! Thanks for looking. G

Spring Equinox, “Worm Moon” Rise

Spring Equinox, Super “Worm Moon” Rise. This is how the spring equinox, super moon, burst on the scene last night over the Columbine Hondo Wilderness. Yesterday’s image came shortly after, when the moon lit up the sky and the San Cristobal Valley. I hope your first day of spring was sweet and full of light and growth. G

Almost Full Moon Rise, Northern NM

Almost full moon rise, in the clouds over the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Northern NM. I looked out the kitchen window, there were some clouds, all wonderfully illuminated by the setting sun. I poured myself a glass of Jameson’s whiskey. When I looked out the window again this is what I saw. Happy Vernal Equinox, thanks for looking. G

Culvert, Adobe Shadows, San Cristobal

Culvert, with adobe shadows in the village of San Cristobal. Sometimes I take a walk through the village to pick up the mail and say “hello” to those I meet. I wave at a passing car and snap a few photos with the iPhone. I’ve been fascinated for some time with this culvert in the field of a neighbor. I’m sure the fascination with this scene will continue. Thanks for looking. G
