Pinto Pony, Llano De San Juan, New Mexico

Pinto pony, Llano De San Juan, New Mexico. Just off the High road to Taos, out of Peñasco is the hamlet of Llano. It is a favorite stop on the High road to Taos photo tour. This pinto/paint was the warmest looking creature around. Suffice to say, as we descended Highway 518 into Taos, the temperatures warmed up resulting in yesterdays photo of the day. Thanks for looking. G

Lobatos Steel Bridge, Frozen Rio Grande, Colorado

Lobatos steel bridge (circa 1890), crossing the frozen Rio Grande in southern Colorado. It’s cold, infact freezing cold out here. So cold the Lobatos bridge is locked in ridged, eerie silence, by the ice. We are alone under the late afternoon sky. Solitude prevails on this day, nothing exists, just us and the cold. Thanks for looking. G

Golden Eagle, Pole Sitting, Vallecito Mountain

Golden Eagle, pole sitting, on the Hondo Mesa with Vallecito Mountain for a backdrop. I caught a glimpse of what I thought was a hawk from a distance, but grew larger as I closed the distance. I’m not a hundred percent certain it’s a golden but I’m going with it. Thanks for looking. G

Snow White, Blue, Blanca, Colorado

Snow white and blue, in the town of Blanca, Colorado. That’s about all I can say on this shot, except, I liked the organic shape of undulations in the snow set against the rigid lines of the door. Thanks for looking. G

Cattle Dogs, Bulls, Horses, Round Up

Cattle dogs, bulls, horses, on a winter round up in La Jara, Colorado. Yes, that’s gonna work!!!
These were obstinate bulls and tenacious cattle dogs. The rancher on horse back told the dogs either to “get ’em” or “bite ’em”. The one blue healer there, on the tail end of the bull, really reveled in it’s work. The things we see on the road. Thanks for looking. G

Sliver, Crescent Moon, Sangre De Cristos, NM

Sliver, of a crescent moon, rising over the Sangre De Cristo foothills, this morning in San Cristobal, NM. The moon rose shortly before the sun rose, so it was fairly difficult to see… until I under exposed the bright area of sky, then low and behold, this was what presented itself. Temps were around 20ºF at 6:55am, so as much as I enjoyed the moment, I was happy to retreat to the kitchen for a hot cuppa tea! Thanks for looking. G.

Blanca Peak Massif, Snow And Ice

Blanca Peak Massif, snow and ice, southern Colorado. I’ve been here before and it often looks like this in winter. It’s a gorgeous spot at the side of a back road where the wind blows something fierce when it wants to. It doesn’t look it, but it was 7˚ out there on this day. Thanks for looking. G

Red Willows, Cottonwood Tree, Arroyo Hondo

Red willows, cottonwood tree, Arroyo Hondo, NM. In fact, the willows were so hot, I had to back off the reds and yellows that came out of the camera to make them look less cooked! I love it when the soft reds of early winter start turning towards the orange spectrum. They make the countryside feel warmer on these very cold days. Thanks for looking. G

Breaking Through The Snow Today

Breaking through the snow today. These three little fronds, albeit, a weed made their appearance known as I walked through the field. In all of the two acres they caught my eye. Pretty, aren’t they? Thanks for looking. G

Wolf Moon Rising, Lama, New Mexico

Wolf Moon rising, as the clouds cleared, Lama, New Mexico. I drove north to get away from the mountain clouds. I could see a break in the sky ahead, then there it was. My heart skipped a beat. I pulled over and made a number of images and when the clouds built up again I left. Thanks for looking and for all the compliments and comments. G
