Arroyo Hondo Rainbow And A Half

Arroyo Hondo rainbow and a half. The last storm made for some nice images of rainbows and fall colors. Most of the aspens up high are done until next time, so it’s up to the cottonwoods to do their thing now. I’ll be watching and as always, thanks for looking. G

Turquoise And Fall Colors

Turquoise and fall colors on the high road to Taos. Drive any road in northern New Mexico right now and the light and colors will amaze you, as will the skies. Throwing in some quirky ‘New Mexicana’ will make the day! Thanks for looking. G

Milkweed Seed And Rabbit Brush

Milkweed Seed and Rabbit Brush. Carried on the morning breeze through the neighborhood, the hardy milkweed seed settles on the rabbit brush. Sooner or later the seed will be released from the floss. Thanks for looking. G

Piedra Lumbre (Shining Rock) Abiquiu, NM

Piedra Lumbre (Shining Rock) Land Grant in Abiquiu, NM. On a photo tour last week around Abiquiu and the Rio Chama we pulled over at a favorite location. There were many opportunities for beautiful landscape images that day, as shadows from the clouds passed over the scene. This big plant, not sure what it’s name is, made for a foreground subject that mimicked the shape of the cloud behind the red rock butte. Thanks for looking. G

Arroyo Hondo Morning Sunrise

Arroyo Hondo, morning sunrise. Life is good in the pastures at sunrise in the Arroyo Hondo Valley. I spent a moment, on the drive to Taos this morning, to stop and watch the horses grazing in the light filtered fields. This is what light traveling at 186,000 miles per second can create. After spending five minutes at this spot I realized that the light had traveled millions and millions of miles when it entered my camera’s lens, passing through, as the shutter opened, to the sensor which helped produce this scene. Yep I love science, and being present to appreciate the moment. Thanks for looking. G

Harvest Moon, Taos Volcanic Plateau

Harvest moon setting over the Taos Volcanic Plateau. I went out early this morning to watch the full harvest moon setting across the plateau. The scene was augmented by clouds and mists around the hills. This image came together nicely and I made a number of other images in the Arroyo Hondo valley after the sun rise. I’ll post a few of those shots in the coming days. Thanks for looking. G

In The Shadow Of The Sun

In the shadow of the sun at San Rafael, La Cueva, NM. Today’s photo is from the rear side of the church in yesterday’s photo of the day. I thought I would complete the experience we encountered in this beautiful location. I could post the third photo from that day of a Prairie Rattler, near this spot, that warned me to be aware, but you can see that image here on Facebook. Thanks for looking. G

San Rafael La Cueva New Mexico

San Rafael La Cueva New Mexico. Pulled up at the church to the thrill of the reflection in a storm puddle. The standing water has always been there after the rains but the grass was so long and it was merely a swampy mess. On this trip the grass was mown and the reflection almost resembled glass. Thanks for looking. G

Sunset Cloud And Moonrise

Sunset cloud and moonrise over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains New Mexico. So… after a wonderful day around Mora NM we stopped off at the grocery store to pick up some supplies and were greeted by this amazing sight. Thank you for looking. Geraint

Reflection At The Saint Francis Church

Reflection at the Saint Francis Church … a fall morning after the rain. Got down on my knees and made this image shortly before the caretaker came along and swept up the puddles. Got to be the early bird to beat the caretaker. Thanks for looking. G
