Boardwalk, Steps, Bricks, Pink Wall

Boardwalk, Steps, Bricks, Pink Wall. On our trip through southern Colorado and northern New Mexico to check out the aspens, we dropped in at Tierra Wools in Los Ojos, NM, where I spent some time looking around the architecture in the village. I’ll post a few images over the next few days from this sweet outpost known for it’s fiber arts, yarns and sheep round up each spring and fall. Here is the boardwalk at the entrance to Tierra Wools. I thought the colors had a hint of fall to them. G

Highway 17, Aspens Turning In Colorado

Highway 17, aspens turning in Colorado. Took a drive today over the Cumbres Pass on Highway 17 to check out the aspen colors. We found many groves turning to shades of yellow, gold and red. There are still many green groves, and then there are many groves that, in the words of the band the Eagles, are “already gone”! Thanks for looking, and if you are in New Mexico, get out there over the next week for some prime colors. G

Highway Sky, Taos, NM

Highway Sky, Taos, New Mexico. I wanted to create a feeling of what it was like driving in to the Taos Valley today. The highway was highlighted by reflected light from the distant cumulus clouds.  The foothills were backlit and very dark. The cumulus clouds were lit by the sun shining above the storm clouds overhead, giving an indication how low the storm clouds really were. And then… the skies opened up and it just now stopped raining here in San Cristobal, five hours later. Thanks for looking. G

Fall Equinox Crescent Moon

Fall Equinox Crescent Moon this evening from San Cristobal, NM. A momentary break in the clouds following the sunset this evening, revealed a beautiful sliver of a moon, and then it was gone. At least in the view from our garden. Thanks for looking. G

San Cristobal Sunrise

San Cristobal Sunrise. Every now and again nature nails it. We awoke a couple of mornings ago to the whole house glowing inside from the sunrise light. I wanted to make an image of the interior of the house with the reflected light glancing off walls, windows, furniture and the wood stove. Had I done so, I would have missed this image of the sun rising over the Columbine – Hondo Wilderness out the kitchen window. It wasn’t really a dilemma. Thanks for looking. G

Mergansers In The Valle Vidal

Mergansers in the Valle Vidal (Valley of Life), Carson National Forest, northern New Mexico. Two of approximately eighteen of this family of ducks we first spotted on a photo tour in early August. All of them seem to be flourishing on this small man made lake in the high country. Thanks for looking. G

High Desert Farming, Colorado

High desert farming in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. Center pivot irrigation fields dissect the space between earth and sky. They are a stark contrast between the subtle fall colors of the high desert landscape and circular fields. Thanks for looking. G

San José De Gracia De Las Trampas, NM

San José de Gracia de Las Trampas on the high road to Taos. Another image of one of my favorite places on the high road to Taos. This time from the rear of the building looking through the gate to the cemetery. Thanks for looking. G

Storm Across The Plateau

Storm across the Plateau. Looking across the Taos Volcanic Field, a storm is brewing. Soon this is the way it will be in northern New Mexico, and it will bring snow. But not today. G

Granite Fall Color, Taos Ski Valley

Granite Fall Color. While the aspens and cottonwoods in the high country and Taos Valley are only hinting at fall, the more intimate locations like this crevice in the granite, on the road to Taos Ski Valley, were showing more signs of color and what’s to come. Thanks for looking. G
