La Luna Rising Over The Sangre De Cristos

La Luna rising over the Sangre De Cristo Mountains tonight. Some folks think that some kind of warm colored moon at this time of year makes it the”Harvest Moon”. Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn’t. The color of the moon is insignificant to the fact that it is a “Harvest Moon”. The closest full moon to the fall equinox is the “Harvest Moon”. Ergo, the fall equinox is on or around September 22nd, the October 5 full moon will be the official “Harvest Moon”. That said, EarthSkyNews posted this today regarding tonights moon. Thanks for looking. G

Full Moon Rise Tonight San Cristobal, NM

“Nearly” full moon rise tonight over San Cristobal, NM. I stepped out into the cool evening air just when a ghost of a moon rose over the Sangre de Cristo foothills. As “la luna” made it’s way skyward, some clouds moved in creating a mystery around it’s silent ascent. Late tonight the clouds may disperse and the light of the moon will illuminate the whole interior of our house … no night lights needed. Thanks for looking. G

San Acacio, Colorado

San Acacio, Colorado homestead. I’ve made many images of this building and have been watching it’s demise through the years. This image below is from 2007. I first made it in color but I like the black and white in this instance. And this image is from August 2016. Last month the winds had taken even more of a toll on the structure. Some time in the next week I’ll be back up there again. I’ll let you know how it’s holding up or if it isn’t, either way! Thanks for looking. G

Through The Veil Of Decay

Through the veil of decay, two crosses. The irony here? This little chapel is undergoing a restoration. When I first visited the building many years ago, there was graffiti on the walls, inside and out, empty liquor bottles, remnants of a campfire and an invite from a few locals to “hang out”. I declined the offer and moved on. The restoration from the ashes of time, is a dedication, a reverence for the traditions by those involved, and makes a change from the alternative I encountered long ago, so prevalent in so many cases. Thanks for looking. G

Yellow Poppy Pod, Crested Butte, Colorado

Yellow Poppy Pod, Crested Butte, Colorado. I liked the minimalism of this scene. The opened poppy and the unopened pod, a reflection of what is, what was, and what it is to become. Thanks for looking. G

Aspens Hopewell Lake

Aspens Hopewell Lake. On the trail at Hopewell Lake, sauntering through the forest in the high mountain air. Soft, moist meadow grasses underfoot, aspens, mysterious, beckoning on ward. I can take this, and more of it. Thanks for looking. G

Sunflower Sun Shower Sky

Sunflower sun shower and sky. Yesterday evening in San Cristobal, NM. A short stroll down the driveway, under the sunset, where all the volunteer sunflowers grow, and I give my attention to the moment. A slight rain, the flower, the sky, and this one is in the can. Print it! Thanks for joining me and for looking. G

Guadalupe Shrine, Guadalupita NM

Guadalupe Shrine, Guadalupita northern NM. Sometimes the sheer simplicity of a scene attracts my attention. I pull over, make two exposures and move on. Painted on the side of the catholic church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, in Guadalupita, a hamlet near Mora, NM.

Highway, Ocate, On The Plains, NM

Highway, Ocate, NM. Big storm lots of rain, green as green can get where the Rockies meet the Plains. It was worth getting wet to be out there with the scent of damp earth, wet grass, and me, and the mullein plant standing sentry, silently, dutifully along both sides of the highway. Thanks for looking. G

San Rafael, La Cueva, NM

San Rafael, La Cueva, NM. The church of San Rafael in La Cueva New Mexico. We took a drive today through the mountains to Mora and beyond. Gorgeous clouds, light, color and buckets of rain. The return trip through the Moreno Valley, Eagle Nest and Red River was capped of with heavy sky, thunder and lightning, and torrential sideways rain. Thanks for looking. G
