Stone House, Dixon, Downtown

Stone house, Dixon, downtown. Early morning shadows and reflections of this historic stone house, now a studio gallery in Dixon NM. I put the camera on the floor in front of the puddle, as I can’t resist a puddle and this is what I got. Thanks for looking. G

Blooming Yucca, Rio Grande Gorge Rim

Blooming Yucca in Wild Rivers Recreation Area on the Rio Grande Gorge Rim. That Yucca plant from a couple of weeks ago is finally blooming. Those few cold nights and days slowed things down but now this part of the state is in a super bloom. Yuccas and Indian Paintbrush go so well together. I hope you can take the time to get outside. Or… join me on a tour, I’ll show you the beautiful locations in this corner of the state. Thanks for looking. G

“Perky Sue” East Rim, Rio Grande Gorge

“Perky Sue” East Rim, Rio Grande Gorge at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area. Yes they are perky, indiscriminate and glowing in the morning light. It’s an appropriate name for these, “Perky Sue” in this particular arid climate. Not sure I’d be so perky. Thanks for looking. G

Saint Josephs, Laguna Pueblo

Saint Josephs church at the Laguna Pueblo, New Mexico. The sun arcs across the sky and casts shadows in a nice alignment. We spent some time chatting with the priest and caretaker, and watched the shadows resolve. I’ve enjoyed visiting the pueblo over the years. Here are a few images from previous photo treks to Laguna Pueblo. Thanks for looking. G

Bull Elk Watcher In The Woods

Bull Elk, watcher in the woods. Here’s the big fella from our trip to the mountains last Monday. He had two females in tow and was certainly intent on keeping us under his watchful eye. Life in the high country. Can’t seem to get enough of it. Thanks for looking. G

Aspen Groves In The Valle Vidal

Aspen groves in the Valle Vidal. It’s greening up nicely in the high country. The snow on those distant peaks of the Wheeler Wilderness will likely be around for the rest of the summer. It could possibly still be there when it snows again in the fall. Thanks for looking. G

Rio Costilla Park, Northern New Mexico

Rio Costilla Park, Northern New Mexico. The Rio Costilla was flowing with gusto in the mountains yesterday. We caught the last light creeping up the rocks of the canyon walls, casting shadows and reflected light onto the river. If you get a chance to visit this area I highly recommend it. Or join me on a photo tour in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains this summer. Thanks for looking. G

Elk Cows, In The High Country

Elk Cows, in the high country of New Mexico. In the Valle Vidal (Valley of Lifeagain today. We spent the afternoon and evening photographing the high alpine light. Because we stayed out past dinner time, we were fortunate to see so many elk. One bull with two cows emerged from the trees and crossed the road. They stared at us momentarily, then took off into a hillside of pines. Not long after, as twilight descended over the valley, we spotted a dozen cow elks, a number of them pregnant, grazing on the fresh shoots of grass along the creek. These three ladies came down the hillside, herded the others and ushered them into the trees. It was a beautiful drive home. Thanks for looking. G

Little House On The Plains

Little house on the plains, Capulin, NM. This little house out there in the field, befriended by a few ravens, sits alone under a brooding sky. At the time I was on our annual photo trek with my good friend Ron. We descended the plateau and spotted this place. The light was eerily beautiful although foreboding. It hailed heavily after I made this image. When the hail storm passed, a rainbow followed arcing over the Capulin Volcano. Stay tuned and thanks for looking. G
