On The Petaca Point Trail. 05-01-2024

Greetings from San Cristobal NM. This week on the Petaca Point Trail, southwest of Taos.

When the only camera you have is a cellphone you make do. These few shots were taken on a hike last week. We’re going back on the Petaca trail tomorrow for what I’m hoping will be a Claret Cup Cactus superbloom. I’m taking a Sony camera on tomorrow’s hike. If you’re interested in this hike on the Petaca Point Trail it’s mostly flat with many expansive views of the mountains and river gorge.

I went to Pueblo, Colorado for a film festival last weekend. It was fun, and something different for me. On the way home I stopped at this favorite spot for this shot of the passing storm with Ute Mountain.

Cactus, Pueblo Alto Trail, Chaco Canyon

Cactus on the Pueblo Alto trail in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. There is much to see in Chaco Culture Historical Park, up, down and all points in between. If I find the photo of the piece of pottery we found near this spot I’ll post. We pick it up look and marvel at it, then put it back down where we found it for others to enjoy. This cactus was perfect right where it was. Thanks for looking. G

Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, Moreno Valley, New Mexico

Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway in the Moreno Valley, northern New Mexico. Often times I photograph just for the record. I began my photo of the day blog, in September 2005, partly to draw traffic to my website, but mostly as a visual journal. If I want to know where I was, or what the weather was like on a particular day in say, 2011 I’ll check out my journal and you can too! Just pick a date and visit my blog or visit previous archive. In the years to come, I’ll look back on this date to see where I was and what was happening, or in this case, what was blooming along the roadside in  the Moreno Valley in mid June 2020. It goes without saying, that we’ll all remember what our joint, overall experience was in Spring and Summer 2020. I’ll enjoy recalling these tiny little ornamental cactus flowers on an excursion today around the Enchanted Circle with my love. Thanks for looking. G

Claret Cup Cactus, Carson National Forest, NM

Claret Cup Cactus growing all around in the Carson National Forest, northern New Mexico. Took a hike yesterday with my son in the foothills close to San Cristobal. He spotted this beauty under a pine tree. We also have a nice grouping under the pine tree in our garden. Beauty to behold at this time of year in the high desert. Thanks for looking. G
