Waning Crescent Moon Rising

Waning (4%) crescent moon rising over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains bright and early this morning. I was surprised to see it as there were those clouds. While I was setting up the the tripod in the driveway, the clouds moved aside revealing this sliver of the moon. It disappeared back into the clouds for another ten minutes, emerging above the linear clouds. Thanks for looking. G

You can just make out a little “earthshine” on the moons surface.

Jemez Mountains, Crescent Moon, Jupiter

Jemez Mountains sunset with the Crescent Moon, and the planet Jupiter suspended like a pendulum in the south west skies over the ancient super volcano of the Valle Caldera. Following yesterday’s image, the skies this evening were clear, revealing more than a few celestial bodies. Thanks for looking. G

Crescent Moon, Taos Volcanic Plateau.

Crescent Moon, setting over the Taos Volcanic Plateau, northern New Mexico. It was very quiet out there as the moon emerged briefly in the space between the clouds. No traffic, no birds, no planes… and then it disappeared into the clouds again. Thanks for looking. G

Elm Tree Moon

Elm Tree Moon. That’s the sight I see when I go to the gate. I just love the contrast. My enthusiasm for winter cold is sadly lacking, countered by pristine skies, meditative landscapes and solitude. Thanks for looking. G

Jemez Mountains Caldera, Crescent Moon

Jemez Mountains Caldera, with the crescent Moon and a small flock of cranes. Another shot from the west garden wall. The thought of the cranes heading south inspires me with images of warmer climes. Not that I’m heading south any time soon, but I’ll let them carry my thoughts with them. Thanks for looking. G

Prayer Flags With Crescent Moon

Prayer flags with the crescent moon this evening over Arroyo Hondo, NM. A crystal clear sky with the waxing moon. Such a beautiful, simple composition, nothing wanting or lacking. Thanks for looking. G

Waxing Moon Over The Volcanic Plateau

Waxing moon setting over the Taos Volcanic Plateau, west of Taos in northern New Mexico. And… those folks in the airplane are having a beautiful evening flight heading to the Taos Airport. A gorgeous evening to watch the stunning crescent moon. Thanks for looking. G

Venus, Crescent Moon, Sangre De Cristos

Venus and the Crescent Moon this morning over the Sangre De Cristo Mountains of New Mexico. There was peace and quiet at six o’clock as Venus and the crescent moon slipped silently above the slumbering pine ridge into the crystal clear lavender dawn. I had the camera shutter on silent mode so as to preserve the lingering tranquility in the frosty air, my breath fogged the LCD. A few more frames and it was time for the local rooster’s wake up call. It didn’t come! My neighbors turkey beat him to it and let out a blood curdling gobble, gobble, gobble, that echoed around the valley. Time for a cup of tea.  Below is an image of the moon as it crested the tree line five minutes earlier. Thanks for looking. G

Crescent Moon One Percent Waxing

Crescent Moon one percent waxing over the Volcanic Plateau west of Taos, New Mexico. It took me a moment to see it, actually quite a long moment. Then, as the clouds parted, there it was shining like the day. Thanks for looking. G

Venus, Crescent Moon Over The Plateau

Venus and the crescent Moon over the Volcanic Plateau, west of Taos, New Mexico. Made a short drive south to a wonderful vantage point to watch the sunset, followed by the Moon and Venus emerging out of the light. I hope you get out over the next few days and see for yourself. Thanks for looking. G
