Ute Mountain Road, Northern New Mexico. I pulled over here a couple of evenings ago for a cup of tea and to watch the rain move through the area after a day on the road photographing around northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Sangre De Cristo Mountian clouds, San Cristobal. This is the view from our field where these strange, but not unfamiliar clouds, formed and congregated over our valley yesterday evening. I hope everyone is enjoying the beauty out there where you are. Thanks for looking in. G
Sunset light rays, Arroyo Hondo, across the plateau to the source. I don’t remember what happened next on this particular evening in 2012, but it looks better in this photo than the clear blue skies out there this evening. There’s no drama out there now, drama is good when it comes to weather in landscape photography. Thanks for looking. G
Orphan Mesa, Ghost Ranch, New Mexico. I could go out there, it’s about an hour and a quarter drive from home, and that would be lovely, but I’m really enjoying my time at home and discovering armchair travel is just fine right now. Hope I still want to go out when all this is over… just kidding! Thanks for looking. G
Crescent Moon waxing with “earth shine” just now, setting over the plateau. Stunning beauty. The moon is reflecting light from the earth! Makes sense “earth shine”. I just got in after it set through the reddish, orange haze. Then it got cold. Now for a roast chicken dinner! Thanks for looking. G
Sunrise, Sangre De Cristo Mountains, NM. I’m rarely up for a sunrise. In fact I’m hardly ever up for a sunrise. I can usually see it from the bedroom window! I photographed this sunrise because I’d got up to “shoot” the Moon that morning with Mars. This occurred shortly after Mars emerged from behind the Moon. As I was already up I grab this little scene. Venus, crescent moon conjunction, during a break in the storm today, from San Cristobal, NM. It was a beutiful sight to see as the clouds parted and the sky cleared. Right now the snow is coming down all soft and fluffy, the kind you want to catch on your tongue. Thanks for looking. G
Conjunction, Venus and Jupiter, (not the closest conjunction this week), southwest over the Valle Caldera in the Jemez Mountains. It’s a beautiful sight across the plateau. This evening, Jupiter has descended below Venus, and is cruising to the horizon and million of miles beyond. The scale of things are mind blowing, yet simple. It doesn’t take much to impress me. In the middle of the pasture, clear skies overhead, standing in awe of things, I wonder… I wonder that there can be anything greater than this. Thanks for looking. G
Tipi sky, Ranchos De Taos, New Mexico. Digging in the archives and clearing out the virtual stuffed closet today I found this image of the tipis, south of Taos, near where I used to live. In the evening, around sunset, I would pop down the road, a mile or so from home, to watch and wait as the scene unfolded. Thanks for looking. G
Milky Way from the deck in San Cristobal, New Mexico. We stepped outside to see the crescent moon. The stars in the Milky Way were so bright, and Jupiter was dominating the sky above the house. The ambient light in the clouds on the horizon is from Taos. The grasses and trees are lit by a quick flick of the flashlight. I’m always inspired by the night sky in northern New Mexico where we live, some times to make an image and other times to just stand in awe. Thanks for looking. G
