Sun and fire smoke with wind across the Taos Valley and beyond. A few images from yesterday evening when smoke from Colorado, California and New Mexico filled the skies over most of the state. I had fun finding locations most of which I’m very familiar with so it wasn’t too difficult. Rather apocalyptic looking. Stay safe, be well and thanks for looking. G
Sunflowers in the San Cristobal Valley signifying the end of summer and start of fall. It’s beginning in the high desert of northern New Mexico. An arctic blast is heading our way tomorrow and Wednesday. Snow is also forecast where we live. Nothing new here or out of the ordinary. Snow can be expected, and often is expected, any time after labor day. Snow on the sunflowers should make for some nice images. Thanks for looking. G
Comet Neowise, tipi and stars. One last view from where I saw it with binoculars first. It’s fading now but it sure has been a treat to see and observe it’s trajectory across our sky. Thanks for looking. G
Comet Neowise over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, San Cristobal, NM. Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE. This is what I got from the driveway, this shot of the icy comet almost overhead. It wasn’t cold out but it felt better with a jacket. Stay tuned for another view from tonight, hopefully. Thanks for looking. G
Sangre De Cristo Mountian clouds, San Cristobal. This is the view from our field where these strange, but not unfamiliar clouds, formed and congregated over our valley yesterday evening. I hope everyone is enjoying the beauty out there where you are. Thanks for looking in. G
Venus, Crescent Moon, over San Cristobal, NM. I was out on the deck three nights this week enjoying the Venus, Moon conjunction. Did you see it? The planet and moon were hidden, here in San Cristobal, earlier in the evening. When they ultimately emerged from the clouds I was suspended in time, until that is, a plane passed between the moon and my camera. You can make out the plane in the second image. Thanks for looking. Mars, Jupiter and Crescent Moon conjunction bright and early this morning from the deck in San Cristobal. A quick look out the bedroom window at 5am. Then out to the deck for this grouping. Mars was clearly discernible and I could just make out two of Jupiter’s moons. Saturn was out there too, way east of the group. I’ve added a shot below. Thanks for looking. G
Rainbow in the winter sun light, the first I’ve seen out in the field in San Cristobal this year. Scenes like this usually show up in the summer monsoons. There happened to be a mix of rain, sleet and snow. It disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Thanks for looking. G
Sunrise, Sangre De Cristo Mountains, NM. I’m rarely up for a sunrise. In fact I’m hardly ever up for a sunrise. I can usually see it from the bedroom window! I photographed this sunrise because I’d got up to “shoot” the Moon that morning with Mars. This occurred shortly after Mars emerged from behind the Moon. As I was already up I grab this little scene. Mars with Lunar occultation (covered), 02-18-2020. Mars crept out from behind the Moon and appeared through the clouds this morning. Shortly after I made this image at 5:57am the clouds dispersed. Had I stirred from my sleep a couple of hours earlier I would have been able to observe Mars get swallowed up by the bright crescent. Thanks for looking. G
