March along the Rio Chama in Abiquiu, New Mexico. During this self imposed quarantine I’m touring the archives. I’m going slow, pedaling my virtual bicycle, savoring moments in images made over the last few years. Roads, southwest style, traffic jam. This area was predominantly sheep ranching years ago. Shepherds would take their flocks from New Mexico, north to the rail heads in southern Colorado. This was a small group of about five hundred head of sheep. The truck had to wait about twenty minutes until they were past. Thanks for looking. G
Sangre de Cristo Mountain snows. Still a lot of snow up there a few days ago in the mountains at the New Mexico, Colorado State Line. And on a stunningly, crystal clear day for a drive during our self imposed quarantine. Home to car, to mountains and back home again. Didn’t see a soul out there, but what’s new? Thanks for looking. Mars, Jupiter and Crescent Moon conjunction bright and early this morning from the deck in San Cristobal. A quick look out the bedroom window at 5am. Then out to the deck for this grouping. Mars was clearly discernible and I could just make out two of Jupiter’s moons. Saturn was out there too, way east of the group. I’ve added a shot below. Thanks for looking. G
Plastic wrapped window treatment in Raton, New Mexico. Sometimes I walk by a scene and I just have to make a picture. This is an image of the clouds reflecting in a window, that had tinting applied which, over time, had blistered, stretched and bubbled. Hey… thanks for looking too. G
Spider Rock, Canyon De Chelly, Arizona. Spider Rock, a sandstone spire that rises 750 feet (229 m) from the canyon floor at the junction of Canyon de Chelly and Monument Canyon. This picture I post in honor of F. Ted Henry of Chinle, Arizona. Rest in peace and shine on Ted. Thank you for sharing your stories. G
F. Ted Henry, was a jeweler and craftsman who displayed and sold his stunning work at the White House Ruin in Canyon de Chelly (Tséyiʼ in Navajo), Arizona.
Ute Mountain, with the Rio Grande Gorge, northern New Mexico. A quick cell phone photo on a photo tour/workshop last week. At this point the photographer I took out was flying his drone. I enjoyed having both feet on the ground but his images had a spectacular elevated perspective. I’ll see if I can share them in due course. Now I want a drone. Thanks for looking. G
El Malpais, National Monument, rocks and tree at the Sandstone Bluffs Overlook. Another in the “Glass Lantern Slide” series. When self isolation translates into making art. One of two dozen images I’ve created over the last three weeks. Thanks for looking. G
Cattail, Monte Vista, NWR, Colorado. A quick trip to the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge and all I get is a cattail along flooded marshes. There are, of course, thousands of cattails giving sustenance and shelter to wildlife. I chose to single out this particular specimen, a tiny slice of life along the marshes in southern Colorado. Rainbow in the winter sun light, the first I’ve seen out in the field in San Cristobal this year. Scenes like this usually show up in the summer monsoons. There happened to be a mix of rain, sleet and snow. It disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Thanks for looking. G
