The East Tower At San Isidro Church, Colorado

The east tower at San Isidro Catholic Church, Las Mesitas, Colorado. Looking up inside the tower of this church, destroyed by fire in 1975, reminded me of all the times I’ve stared at the sky through the ancient ruins of abbeys and monasteries back in the U.K.  Thanks for looking. G

Catholic church at Llano de San Juan, New Mexico

Catholic church at Llano de San Juan, on the “High Road to Taos”, New Mexico. Sometimes there’s a payoff shooting images in the high afternoon sun. The shadows and texture are defined in the angled lighting and the scorching white earth around us, in this instance, fills in the shadows in the belfry of this quiet little place in Llano de San Juan. There’s never a bad time to hit the road in search of imagery in New Mexico.  Thanks for looking. G

Church Of “Sagrado Corazón De Jesus” Rio Lucio

The Church of “Sagrado Corazón De Jesus” Rio Lucio on the High Road to Taos. A chapel, a trailer home, a couple of classic cars, and an extra cross for good measure. When driving the High Road to Taos from Santa Fe, scenes like this abound in the villages and hamlets in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico. Many of these places are slowly becoming gentrified, torn down or replaced. I spend a lot of time on the road, these days, making images of the more authentic architecture and places in northern New Mexico. Looking back in the archives many of the images I’m coming across depict places already gone. This little church still stands, in it’s simplicity, a reminder of trips I’ve made many times during the last thirty five years. Looking forward to many more. Thanks for looking. G

Holy Trinity Church Arroyo Seco, NM

Holy Trinity Church, Arroyo Seco, NM. A photo tour today to Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch, was a lot of fun and many images. This image I made of the church in Arroyo Seco from a photo tour earlier this month jumped out of the files archive and seemed to say … “choose me” … so I did. Thanks for looking. G

Chapel, Talpa, New Mexico

Chapel of Nuestra Señora de San Juan de los Lagos Talpa, New Mexico. Time of day and more importantly the time of year, in this case, helped create the resulting image. At this time of year the sun is almost at it’s most southerly. The sky was overcast and the light on the scene was very diffused when we arrived, on this second day of a three day grand tour. I’d already framed up the three black crosses on the chapel, and as I settled on the final composition the sun emerged momentarily from behind the clouds and the little shadow from the cross on the left popped out. The shadow added a further element to a scene I’d pre-visualized, without any more preparation than just showing up at the location. Always prepared to be amazed … thanks for looking. G

Villanueva, Our Lady Of Guadalupe

Our lady of Guadalupe Church, Villanueva, New Mexico. On assignment this week in Villanueva, we met some wonderful people, making new friends. Those we met in this small town, southeast of Santa Fe, will restore your faith in humanity. I love my job. Thanks for looking. G

In The Shadow Of The Sun

In the shadow of the sun at San Rafael, La Cueva, NM. Today’s photo is from the rear side of the church in yesterday’s photo of the day. I thought I would complete the experience we encountered in this beautiful location. I could post the third photo from that day of a Prairie Rattler, near this spot, that warned me to be aware, but you can see that image here on Facebook. Thanks for looking. G

San Rafael La Cueva New Mexico

San Rafael La Cueva New Mexico. Pulled up at the church to the thrill of the reflection in a storm puddle. The standing water has always been there after the rains but the grass was so long and it was merely a swampy mess. On this trip the grass was mown and the reflection almost resembled glass. Thanks for looking. G

Reflection At The Saint Francis Church

Reflection at the Saint Francis Church … a fall morning after the rain. Got down on my knees and made this image shortly before the caretaker came along and swept up the puddles. Got to be the early bird to beat the caretaker. Thanks for looking. G

San José De Gracia De Las Trampas, NM

San José de Gracia de Las Trampas on the high road to Taos. Another image of one of my favorite places on the high road to Taos. This time from the rear of the building looking through the gate to the cemetery. Thanks for looking. G
