Carson Ranch, New Mexico. West of Taos, across the Rio Grande Gorge is the hamlet (village) of Carson. I’ve made a couple of trips out there over the past week, it feels like taking a few steps back in time to a bygone era. That seems to happen a lot in New Mexico. G
Highway sky. Heading south in to Taos, NM on highway 522, the sunset casts an eerie twilight glow over the mesa roadway and reflects off the cloud poised over the Sangre de Cristo foothills. The sun setting behind and through the fire smoke, filtering the light from the west, created this effect. I like the look of the image but the smoke in the atmosphere is getting tiresome. Cottonwood rainbows. What the magpie in yesterdays image didn’t see. As the rain clouds moved through and the sun played peekaboo behind the clouds in the west, there were two rainbows, then one, and then a brighter one, and then two again. This is another view I had yesterday from the deck in San Cristobal. Thanks for looking. G
Magpie and rainbow from San Cristobal, New Mexico. I love it when I go out to watch a weather event happening and there is a compadre right there with me. This is one of the parents who have a nest in our juniper trees. When the juveniles started calling, demanding attention, this bird took off to take care of their needs. I stayed for sometime longer to enjoy the scene and watch the sunset and numerous lightning strikes. Thanks for looking. G

Mesa road to the mountains under a big southwest sky, Taos, New Mexico. Just after a rain shower moved through the area the scent of wet sage filled the air and all was well with the world. At least that is how it felt standing in this little spot on the mesa looking to the mountains. Thanks for looking. G
White Bridge. A car crosses the Taos Junction bridge over the Rio Grande, it’s headlights illuminate the girders with the Milky Way overhead. Here is the Bridge in Red illuminated by the tail lights of a vehicle. Both in the Orilla Verde Recreation Area, Pilar, New Mexico, and under the starry skies of the Milky Way.
Black Mesa Sunset, across the plateau to a scene that occurs frequently when a storm recedes and the sky gets very dark and the light grows under it.
Home on the range in southern Colorado. Another visit to this wonderful location just over the border in Colorado on a recent photo tour. This abandoned homestead looked a little different on a previous visit.
Fire On The Mountain. When the sun sets on the mountain it lights a fire in the heart of the viewer. I love the winter light, a time when the days are shorter and the sunlight pierces the end of the day in scenes like this.
