Summer Sunsets, Fiery Skies, Northern New Mexico

Summer sunsets and fiery skies, in northern New Mexico. Three photos today. One of the smokey sunset yesterday evening followed by the fiery ball of the sun setting shortly thereafter. The third image is one I came across from 2011 that I shot from my parking lot incorporating the left over rain puddle. Stay safe every one and as always, thank you for looking. G

Fajada Butte, Chaco Canyon, New Mexico

Fajada Butte sunset at the end of a hot summer day hiking in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. Summer is a good time to visit Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Yes, it is hot, very hot, but very few people. Winter is great too, very few people. We’ll spend one more day in NM tomorrow and then who knows where we’ll wind up? Thanks for looking. G

Sunset, Taos Plateau Volcanic Field, NM

Sunset over the Taos Plateau Volcanic Field, New Mexico. I haven’t been out shouting sunsets for a while. I prefer the effects of a sunset on something. I’ve never sold more than a few pictures of sunsets. But the effects of a sunset in the opposite direction, on the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, are much more popular. These days I prefer to sit and watch with a martini in my hand. So in honor of a gorgeous sky and sunset, here’s a panorama. Thanks for looking. G

Sunset Cloud, Moon, Taos, New Mexico

Sunset cloud and moon over Taos, New Mexico. Confronted by this cell last week. I had to stitch a few images together to get it all in. Taken on the same evening as yesterday’s ‘bear’ cloud image, thirty minutes apart. Click on the image to enlarge. Thanks for looking. G

Tipi, Sky, Sunset, A Quote, Lama, NM

Tipi, sky, sunset, and a quote, Lama, NM. This quote has stayed with me since I first became aware of it many years ago. I dreamed of the wide open spaces of the west when I was a kid in South Wales. Here I am, and I’ve slept on the ground many nights with only the stars above me. Thanks for looking. G

Ute Mountain, Tree, Clouds, Sunset

Ute Mountain, tree, clouds, sunset. Below is one of many images from my afternoon and evening drive yesterday. I was headed to the aspen groves to make some images of green trunks, new growth and rustling new leaves. The area was closed for Elk calving until July 25th. Onward! As is often the case, a carefree attitude is rewarded with sublime moments. Yesterday was a good day for an outing and some fun images like this mountain halo. Stay tuned. Thanks for looking. G

Sunset Light Rays, Arroyo Hondo

Sunset light rays, Arroyo Hondo, across the plateau to the source. I don’t remember what happened next on this particular evening in 2012, but it looks better in this photo than the clear blue skies out there this evening. There’s no drama out there now, drama is good when it comes to weather in landscape photography. Thanks for looking. G

Sky, Black Ladder, Sunset, San Cristobal

Sky, Black Ladder, Sunset, San Cristobal. Nothing better to do today than play with apps on my phone. I hope everyone is keeping well and staying safe. Thanks for looking… up! G

Sunset Cloud, Taos Mountain

Sunset cloud, Taos Mountain. So, here’s the image that followed yesterday’s picture, ending that day. Had I thought about it I could have added them sequentially. But… I was diving in too deep when I should have been paddling around the edge of the pool. It’s a subtle image, I know, that is what I like about our mountain, it has many personas determined by the light, and as you know, we have the light here in New Mexico. Stay well, and I’ll see you tomorrow from somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Thanks for looking. G

Taos Mountain, Sunset, Trees

Taos Mountain sunset, through the trees in El Prado, NM. Well.. it’s fun digging further into the archives only to find an image taken shortly after the image I just posted on April 10, two days ago. Stay tuned and I’ll post the final image from that evening shoot tomorrow. Thanks for looking. G
