Canyon Towhee in the snowfall today in, San Cristobal, New Mexico. Stayed in all day and watched the flocks of jays, crows, doves, juncos and this Canyon Towhee who seemed to thoroughly enjoy being ‘out in it’ while occasionally dipping in to the feeder buried under the snow. Thanks for looking. G

Homestead #53 San Luis Valley, southern Colorado. Over the last few weeks we’ve spent many days in the San Luis Valley. I hope you will indulge me my fascination with the landscape, history and architecture of the valley. The area is sparsely populated with many abandoned homesteads. We don’t often meet people out there. Those who do take the time to stop and say hello, asking “is everything ok?’ are more likely a asking a question wrapped in guarded curiosity. Always, everyone we pass driving along, give us a friendly wave, a nod of the head and sometimes a smile. We are welcome for sure, but in return we are gentle with the china and wipe our feet before entering the proverbial home. Thanks for looking. G
Blanca Peak Massif, with lenticular clouds in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado. The day of the winter solstice yielded some incredible imagery over the six hours we toured around the valley on the border of New Mexico and Colorado. We spent ninety precent of the time on nothing but dirt roads. It’s amazing what one finds off the beaten path. Thanks for looking. G
Winter solstice moonrise over the Sangre de Cristo mountains, Colorado. Simple and subtle winter light. No great fanfare or flourish with a sunset, just the white spine of the southern Rocky Mountains highlighted by the almost full moon, that greeted us momentarily, before the clouds enveloped the rest of the sky. Winter light on Taos Mountain and the juvenile cottonwood, in El Prado, NM
In Taos it is claimed that, “the mountain accepts you or rejects you” those it accepts stay, those it rejects, leave! I believe the mountain embraces all who gaze upon it. The accepting is in the observer who unconditionally embraces what they seek. I have spent 35 years and many hours with the mountain. I have only felt the abundance of life force, in it’s presence, within me. Most of all the mountain is beautiful to gaze upon! Thanks for looking. G
Sunshine Valley, and an abandoned homestead in northern New Mexico. There is an inscription in the door step threshold on the east side, facing the moon rise and the mountains, dated 1946. It’s good to know that someone living here, at one time or another, saw the moon rising over the Sangre de Cristos. I wonder if they marveled at it like I do or were they too busy to notice.
