Cornfield, and sunflowers, on the flanks of Taos Mountain. I’ve seen many small fields of corn around the county and I’m impressed by the growth of the plants despite the dry start to summer. My neighbor has a fabulous garden this year. I’m grateful for his generous donations to our pot and to the organic produce section at out local grocery store. Thanks for looking. G
Indian Paintbrush in the high country of the Valle Vidal (Valley of Life) in northern New Mexico. The wildflower is only about 2 to 3 inches tall this year. Beautiful and exquisite all the same. Had to get a ground level view in this case. Thanks for looking. G
White cross and shadows at the Saint Francis Church, in Ranchos de Taos. If you’ve downloaded my July Journal of Photography then you will be familiar with this image. It’s a photo from many years ago that had eluded me until the last few weeks. I like the simplicity of much of the architecture I find here in New Mexico. If I never leave this state, I doubt I’d ever run out of subject matter. Thanks for looking. G
On the Shiprock Dike, Northern NM. Great views abound from this location at Shiprock. Great skies all the way to the San Juan Mountains of Colorado in the clouds. This photo was from a week long photo tour last May. Hey Ron, I’m still going through images. Thanks for looking. G
Chiles, chiles, and more chiles coming soon and roasting somewhere near you. If you love fresh roasted chiles, peeling them and putting them up for fall and winter then you know what I’m talking about. We went through 90 lbs of chiles last winter. We are now out of chiles and can’t wait to see them roasting on almost every street corner. I exaggerate, of course, but I can smell them roasting somewhere from almost every street corner in town. Bring on the harvest. We’ll be doubling our stash this winter. Thanks for looking. G
Juvenile Canyon Towhee on the feeder in the garden, San Cristobal, NM. We have a family of Canyon Towhee’s that have returned for the last couple of years. It was nice to see them here in the valley again this year. They occupy the feeder with the Scrub Jays, the House Fiches, Evening Grosbeaks, Nuthatches, Crows and Magpies. We haven’t seen the Townsend Solitaires, Chickadees or Tanagers this year. Things change. Thanks for looking. G
A random piece of culvert in the San Cristobal Valley, looking suspiciously like a piece of field art. I admire it sitting there day in and day out, for a couple of years, still shiny and out of place. Scenes and subjects such as this get my attention and inspire me and really float my photographic boat. Thanks for looking. G
Tucumcari building facade orange with flower pots. What can I say? This one is from a couple of springs ago. It is a little spring like, but would also pass for Thanksgiving decor. I feel sure the flowers and the wreath will last. Thanks for looking. G
Under the rocks Abiquiu Lake with Cerro Pedernal as the backdrop. It’s a wonderful shady spot under these rocks with the breeze coming off the lake to cool the 100 degree temperatures down. No need to rush off yet! In all the times I’ve visited here, I’ve always enjoyed the view out across the lake to Georgia O’Keeffe’s mountain, so I’d not seen the hand glyphs overhead, in the top left corner, until this visit. I’ve searched for the origin of the hands online but haven’t come up with anything yet. I’ve added an image below. They look like wet palm prints from the kids jumping off the rocks into the lake below me, but they are permanent in the rock. If I find out more I’ll add it to this blog. Thanks for looking. G
Vallecito Peak snow or hail? July 27, 2018 too soon for snow? Then it must be hail, although in the past there has been snow in early August. Well it was gone by morning, but the best part, it was some much needed moisture. Thanks for looking. G
