San Felipe De Neri church in Old Town Plaza, Albuquerque. From several years ago hoofing it around a few Albuquerque locations. This vignette showed up at the start of a week long photo tour/workshop around the four corners region of the Southwest US. Thanks for looking. G
Rio Chama with the reddish rock butte, Cerrito Blanco in Abiquiu, New Mexico. Popped over to Abiquiu yesterday to scout some locations for night sky photography. We pulled over at this spot where the river is full (they released water from the dam) and always muddy. This favorite location on my photo tours was lush and fresh. I made this three image vertically stitched panorama on my iPhone. Then it rained heavy. I should have worn my wellies. Mabel Dodge Luhan House, Taos, New Mexico. Hidden in a dark corner behind the gate house guest quarters is this little scene. I like the simplicity and the iconic New Mexico imagery, ladders, arched doorways in thick adobe walls. It’s a real pretty spot at other times of year under the large cottonwoods flanked by the famous dovecots. Thanks for looking. G
Ranch gate with steer skull, Galisteo, New Mexico. Slightly off the beaten path, but easy to spot if you like to wander around the old dirt streets. I first visited Galisteo in 1984, returning in 1985 and staying at the then Galisteo Inn for a few days. There was plenty of time to explore and wander with my camera and to make some images for my first photography exhibit “New Mexico: First Impressions” at Artworks Gallery, Pasadena, 1986. I’ve been hooked on New Mexico ever since. Thanks for looking. G
Lake Powell, Page, Arizona sunset. Back there, ever present is the Navajo Generating Station (updated the plant is now closed). Over the years I’ve documented many scenes, such as this, in the southwest landscape. Here’s the shot I posted last year. In this photo the bath tub ring is very prominent around Lake Powell and on some days the air quality was atrocious. In this case you can see the beautiful setting on a cleaner air day and the approaching sunset. Thanks for looking. G
Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. The San Francisco de Asis Church under a lavender, twilight sky. Soft shadows give this building a gentle look. From across the street you can also see one of the two belfry crosses. The two towers aren’t equal in height therefore only one cross is visible. Well they maybe equal, but the foundation slopes to the south making them uneven. Stay soft and gentle and be safe out there. Thanks for looking. G
Miner’s Cabins on the road somewhere in Colorado, although I can’t remember exactly where. If anyone knows, feel free to pitch in. I do know it is an historical park with painted on window coverings somewhere in the San Juan Mountains. Thanks for looking. G
Found on the back roads of northern New Mexico. A more appropriate title might be found on the back roads of multiple hard drives. There are plenty of back roads in New Mexico with many diversions and detours, in reality and virtually. Either way it’s always fun to stumble across odd ball compositions like these. Summer sunsets and fiery skies, in northern New Mexico. Three photos today. One of the smokey sunset yesterday evening followed by the fiery ball of the sun setting shortly thereafter. The third image is one I came across from 2011 that I shot from my parking lot incorporating the left over rain puddle. Stay safe every one and as always, thank you for looking. G
Tin roof and the impression of a ladder just of the High Road to Taos, New Mexico. I did a double take when I saw I was looking at the rusty stain where the ladder used to be. Corrugated tin roofing is a mainstay in the mountain villages, a good business to be in back in the day. I love New Mexicana. Thanks for looking. G
