Great Blue Heron, in the Bosque del Apache, National Wildlfe Refuge, New Mexico. These birds have their own territories at the Bosque del Apache, so much so, that one can find them in the same spot from one year to the next. I swear I know this Great Blue Heron intimately after all my trips. Thanks for looking. G
Wild Mustang, on the Wild Horse Mesa, in southern Colorado. There are many bands of these wonderful creatures roaming high up on the mesa with fourteen thousand foot peaks as a backdrop. Peeling Earth, Plaza Blanca, New Mexico. The “White Place” in Georgia O’Keeffe country, Abiquiu, New Mexico is a great place to photograph abstract earth forms. As the flash floods recede and the land dries out wonderful formations occur in the arroyos. Thanks for looking. G
Red-tailed Hawk, in the old cottonwood in Arroyo Hondo, NM. The guardian of the Hondo Valley, steadfast and true. Shows up daily without fail. Critters beware! Thanks for looking. G
Snow storm, in the Village of Cerro, northern New Mexico. On the road to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument one passes through the village, or hamlet, of Cerro. The road meanders through fields, passing homes, farms, a sweet little church and a local cafe. I thought I’d post an image of things to come, in the region, weather wise, over the next few days. Blanca Peak Massif, snow and ice, southern Colorado. I’ve been here before and it often looks like this in winter. It’s a gorgeous spot at the side of a back road where the wind blows something fierce when it wants to. It doesn’t look it, but it was 7˚ out there on this day. Thanks for looking. G
Winter fields, red barn, San Luis Valley, Colorado. This is one of the most fertile valleys, surrounded by ancient, extinct volcanoes, lava cones and scattered scenes like this one. Another in this series of barns and abandoned homesteads of the San Luis Valley. Thanks for looking. G
Cottonwoods, Aspens, Mountains, San Cristobal Valley. It’s all about the light and I like to focus on any scene that lives up to that phrase. Here in northern New Mexico the light is everything. This scene I’ve photographed many times always catches my eye as I drive by on my way home. Thanks for looking. G
Red willows, cottonwood tree, Arroyo Hondo, NM. In fact, the willows were so hot, I had to back off the reds and yellows that came out of the camera to make them look less cooked! I love it when the soft reds of early winter start turning towards the orange spectrum. They make the countryside feel warmer on these very cold days. Thanks for looking. G
Breaking through the snow today. These three little fronds, albeit, a weed made their appearance known as I walked through the field. In all of the two acres they caught my eye. Pretty, aren’t they? Thanks for looking. G
