Bachelor Rams, on the west rim with the Taos mountains as a backdrop. That’s Taos Mountain (Pueblo Peak) on the right, with much needed rain falling directly on the peak. The Bighorn Sheep, all rams, are a band roaming the west rim of the Rio Grande Gorge. If you would like to join me on a photo tour/workshop we will visit all the usual locations and see if we can spot them. The second image shows how close we got to them grazing along the roadside. They seem to enjoy the lush plants that get runoff from the rains on the highway. Thanks for looking. G
Rio Chama road, off the beaten path in Abiquiu, New Mexico. A quick trip to the red and honey colored rock country in the Chama River Canyon yesterday. The temps were in the mid nineties, exceedingly hot and dry! It was great fun to spend time with my son, listening to his story telling, surrounded by gorgeous scenery and good company. Bighorn Ram, a young one! Handsome and immaculately turned out. His horns look like they haven’t yet seen any rutting or any entanglement with larger, more experienced, rams. He was on his own, on a rock in the Orilla Verde area of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, chewing his cud. Doing what bighorn sheep tend to do, he ignored us and moseyed on his leisurely way. Thanks for looking. G

Cerrito Blanco, Abiquiu, New Mexico. A view from the banks of the Rio Chama, and to the south, the Village of Abiquiu. Proximity is the watch word in this area. Wild Mustang, roaming in the San Luis Valley, southern Colorado. It was the stallion permitting us to participate in this encounter with these beautiful and powerful wild beings. Stomping his foot and showing his teeth we moved forward, cautious, in deference, as if in some form of supplication. As close as this is, we respected their space and with the aid of long lenses, were able to make images of these magnificent creatures. Click on photo to enlarge. Thanks for looking. G
Arroyo Hondo Mesa, Rainbow. The promise from last nights post tonight. It was so large and I was so close that even three stitched images couldn’t fit it all in. The outer arc was thinly veiled in the clouds, so not as defined as the parts you see. I plan to do better! As always thank you for looking. G
Rainbow, Taos Mountains. On the road home the storm recedes leaving the landscape bathed in the special light New Mexico is known for and the prerequisite rainbow. I’ll post the full rainbow on tomorrows photo of the day. Thanks for looking. G

Moonrise, over Taos Mountain from San Cristobal, NM yesterday evening. The moon is 99.9% full tonight but rose well after the clouds dispersed from the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, so no photo tonight. I hope you will enjoy this image.
