Santa Rosa de Lima, just off the highway in Abiquiu, New Mexico. I like the feeling being surround by sun-baked, crumbling adobe walls, light filling in the shadows. An afternoon storm, brings cool heavy rains, sometimes a flash flood, eroding arroyos, canyons, and these old adobe bricks. Thanks for looking. G
American Creek, in the Moreno Valley, northern New Mexico where the stars in the sky reach down below your feet. I created this composition to capture the feeling I get when standing in the vast wide open spaces in New Mexico. That was then. Now the few apps I use on my phone give me a virtual reality view of the sky dome above and below my feet and every which way I care to look. Thanks for looking. G
San Cristobal Chapel, in the Village of San Cristobal, New Mexico. We live so close, close enough that we can hear the bells ring for Mass or a funeral. I haven’t heard the bells ring out for awhile. I always remember, as a kid, hearing stories that during World War II the church bells in Britain were silent until the day war ended. That day, they rang out as never before. Stay safe and well. Ghost Ranch is Georgia O’Keeffe Country, and spring in New Mexico is a palette of shifting colors and light. Albeit, an image from a couple of years ago, I’m looking forward to tomorrow, and an experiment in social distancing and the art of photo touring. Carrot at the Taos Plaza Farmers Market. Something fun and timely as our farmers market is opening this coming weekend. I doubt there will be carrots for sale just yet and I doubt I will be there either. But, we do have plenty of carrots and celery for juicing at home in the pantry. Thanks for looking. G
Killdeer bird, along a lake shore in the San Luis Valley, southern Colorado. These long legged, little critters weave their way along the edge of the lake, chattering incessantly as they go. Mexican Hat Rock on the banks of the San Juan River, Southeast Utah. Revisiting a place I’ve been to many times. This trip was this week in May last year. Still armchair traveling around the southwest USA. Enjoy and thanks for looking. G
Conversation in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Arizona 1987. Something fun in the form of a flashback, to one of many trips made with four friends over the years. Each year, in spring, the five of us could be found on the road traveling around the American southwest. Photography happened, with hundreds of images shot on film Southwest and yes there were some keepers made of the amazing landscapes we encountered. Mostly the ten days were filled with a lot of fun and camaraderie, forging long lasting friendships. We also recycled many garbage bags full of cans and bottles! The view of the southwest from the open bed of a pickup truck was an immersive way to travel before it became illegal facing where we’d been rather than looking forward to where we were heading. Full Blossom, Flower, Planting Moon setting, morning in San Cristobal, NM I thought flower or planting moon was good enough until I saw the blossoms on the flowering crab apple. The moon was setting through the blossoms. Works for me. Blossom Moon! Thanks for looking. G
