Blanca massif, and a massif of hay bales. Blanca Peak is the fourth highest summit in the US Rocky Mountains. On a clear day it can be seen from areas around Taos some 100 miles to the south. The massif dominates the central and southern San Luis Valley. Heading up this way again tomorrow on a photo tour/workshop. The weather should be perfect for photography. Thanks for looking. G
Potato Bunker, San Luis Valley. Fascinated with these abandoned utilities from a bygone era, I keep returning to spend time amongst the ghosts that inhabit it. A place where the ghosts are stirred only by the wind, an occasional barn owl, the coyote that lives in the den in the corner, and all wrapped up in moments of sheer silence. Cattle tend to frequent other ruins in the area where the roofs are intact. In this place, at some point in time, someone moved in some easy chairs, a sofa and school chairs. The valley is full of rustic remnants from the past, like this one, many collapsing in on themselves. If this is the kind of subject matter that interests you, join me on a photo tour/workshop. Monte Vista NWR. Sandhill Cranes with the sun trying to break through clouds, adding a nice background drama to the evening fly in of the sandhill cranes at the wildlife refuge this week in Monte Vista, Colorado. Thanks for looking, G

Rural southern Colorado, Ute Mountain, barn. Gorgeous skies and the last snow fall across the valley. Hopefully not the last snow of the winter. This was less than a week ago. Today all the snow is gone and temps were in the mid 50’s F. The ice was gone on the lake. I was standing on the same ice a week ago. Today felt like the refreshing, first day of spring. Raven sitting on a fence post in a sun shower enjoying the last rays of light at sunset. Another raven was on a nearby post, with a lot to say as ravens often do. This bird didn’t answer or do much of anything. I like to think perhaps, it was actually enjoying the moment. Thanks for looking. G
Red Barn, Green Gate, Sandhill Cranes. Made another quick trip up the the National Wildlife Refuge today, where we saw so many Sandhill Cranes, thousands of Canada geese and two Snow Geese. If you have a chance this weekend to make a trip to this area you wont be disappointed. The one thing that really gets me is the call of the cranes. Thanks for continuing to look. G
Crooked Cross, San Luis Valley, Colorado. I like the casual, rakish tilt of the cross on this authentic belfry with the exposed bell. These days the majority of bells are enclosed to keep out the pigeons, doves and other critters, you know, bats in the belfry. Thanks for looking. G
Adobe shadows, Costilla, NM. There are a lot of ruins in New Mexico, but this is my favorite in Costilla on the state line with Colorado. It was a pristinely clear day. The adobe was set against a deep blue sky with the light reflected off the snow filling in the shadows on the adobe walls. Oh and there is a partial moon up there in the left hand corner. Sangre de Cristo light on snow capped peaks. Following the golden glow and drama on the peaks in yesterday’s image, this reddish color glimmered as the last moment. Thanks for looking. G
