Winter solstice moonrise over the Sangre de Cristo mountains, Colorado. Simple and subtle winter light. No great fanfare or flourish with a sunset, just the white spine of the southern Rocky Mountains highlighted by the almost full moon, that greeted us momentarily, before the clouds enveloped the rest of the sky. Happy solstice and thanks for looking. G

Winter light on Taos Mountain and the juvenile cottonwood, in El Prado, NM
In Taos it is claimed that, “the mountain accepts you or rejects you” those it accepts stay, those it rejects, leave! I believe the mountain embraces all who gaze upon it. The accepting is in the observer who unconditionally embraces what they seek. I have spent 35 years and many hours with the mountain. I have only felt the abundance of life force, in it’s presence, within me. Most of all the mountain is beautiful to gaze upon! Thanks for looking. G
Sunshine Valley, and an abandoned homestead in northern New Mexico. There is an inscription in the door step threshold on the east side, facing the moon rise and the mountains, dated 1946. It’s good to know that someone living here, at one time or another, saw the moon rising over the Sangre de Cristos. I wonder if they marveled at it like I do or were they too busy to notice. On the rocks, in the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument. Beautiful shiny igneous rocks enhanced with deep shadows. A gorgeous winter’s day in our corner of paradise. Thanks for looking. G
Black and white at the red barn in the southern San Luis Valley, Colorado. This place is so familiar, so familiar to me, that I think I know this place from a past life or parallel universe. It feels so much like home and always good to visit. Thanks for looking. G
Blanca Peak Massif, from the shore line of frozen Smith Lake in the San Luis Valley. It was a beautifully cold and picture perfect day for image making. Heading back up there for the winter solstice moon rise. Thanks for looking. G
Winter tree light. Those trees in (El Prado) the meadows just north of Taos, NM. Worthy of a drive almost any day of the week when the sun spot lights the valley like this. It adds a lot of warmth at this cold time of year. Warm is warm even if in the eye of the beholder. Thanks for looking. G
Cottonwood Crows. Every morning the Crows gather in the Cottonwood tree in San Cristobal NM. The crow on the right seems to be saying “Honey, I’m home!” after the graveyard shift. There are many characters among the crows in the cottonwood. I look forward to each morning when their personalities shine. Thanks for looking. G
Elm Tree Moon. That’s the sight I see when I go to the gate. I just love the contrast. My enthusiasm for winter cold is sadly lacking, countered by pristine skies, meditative landscapes and solitude. Thanks for looking. G
