Wild Rivers Recreation Area, in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, NM. Popped in here for last but one stop on a tour last week. The clouds were chasing each other across the landscape, helping to create a wonderful depth to this vista, highlighting Ute Mountain in the background. Thanks for looking. G

Amalia, Rio Costilla Valley, New Mexico

Amalia, in the Rio Costilla Valley, New Mexico. Last week’s photo tour found us surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in northern New Mexico. The road through the Rio Costilla Valley has many places to stop and make images. On last weeks tour we stopped every few hundred yards. For the first time in a long while, I filled up a 32 gig camera card. If you’re so inclined, I would love to have you join me on a photo tour. Thanks for looking. G

Red Barn, Hole In The Roof Sunset

Red Barn, hole in the roof sunset, San Luis Valley, Colorado. I haven’t been to visit the red barn in a while, just north of Ute Mountain, there on the left. The wind can be brutal in this area with many bits of the barn scattered around the perimeter. There are more and more openings in this old building, perfectly positioned, for the sun to peer through before setting across the plateau. Thanks for looking. G

Sangre De Cristo Foothills Moon Rise

Sangre De Cristo Mountain foothills moon rise, from the kitchen window in San Cristobal, NM. A stunningly crystal clear evening with the glow of the moon on the aspen groves. The tree canopy, evident under the moon glow, will be gone very soon now. I’m predicting one more week of revelry in the fall colors of northern New Mexico before we call it done. There will be color in the valley and along the Rio Grande well into early November if you get a chance to visit it won’t disappoint. I hope your fall is going well and you enjoy being out in it. Thanks for looking. G

Morning Fog Lifting, Escondido NM

Morning fog lifting, on a photo tour in Valle Escondido NM. As often happens on a photo tour, we keep spontaneity out front. Generally we have a route and basic itinerary laid out, but it’s easily modified at any point in time. It can be determined by multiple factors. More often than not, though, the main factor is about how much fun we are having and the quality of images we are making in a particular location. We worked this scene for two hours and got many images in the can. Thanks for looking. G

Autumn Pond in the Sangre De Cristo mountains of New Mexico. On a photo tour today with friend and fellow photographer Mark Collins, we travelled the Enchanted Circle and beyond. What a spectacular drive and scenery with amazing light. Tomorrow we do it all over again in the Valle Vidal. Thanks for looking. G
