Wild Mustang, roaming in the San Luis Valley, southern Colorado. It was the stallion permitting us to participate in this encounter with these beautiful and powerful wild beings. Stomping his foot and showing his teeth we moved forward, cautious, in deference, as if in some form of supplication. As close as this is, we respected their space and with the aid of long lenses, were able to make images of these magnificent creatures. Click on photo to enlarge. Thanks for looking. G
Arroyo Hondo Mesa, Rainbow. The promise from last nights post tonight. It was so large and I was so close that even three stitched images couldn’t fit it all in. The outer arc was thinly veiled in the clouds, so not as defined as the parts you see. I plan to do better! As always thank you for looking. G
Rainbow, Taos Mountains. On the road home the storm recedes leaving the landscape bathed in the special light New Mexico is known for and the prerequisite rainbow. I’ll post the full rainbow on tomorrows photo of the day. Thanks for looking. G

Moonrise, over Taos Mountain from San Cristobal, NM yesterday evening. The moon is 99.9% full tonight but rose well after the clouds dispersed from the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, so no photo tonight. I hope you will enjoy this image. It will be a full moon at 6:29am on the morning of Thursday August, 15. Thanks for looking. G
New Mexico State Line, off the beaten path in southern Colorado. On this day we switched back across the New Mexico, Colorado State Line a dozen times in as many miles. I hadn’t seen this particular Zia sun symbol or been on this road before. Besides the mosquitos and two men splitting wood logs we were the only ones out there. Chipmunk, Rock Meditation. Why meditation? This little guy took a minute to notice our presence. It was so transfixed, that, or the warm afternoon sun made it drowsy. We were able to make a number of images before it snapped out of it and buzzed off! Thanks for looking. G
Lightning storm, Taos, New Mexico. I set up on the deck in San Cristobal last night. I’d been watching the lightning filling the clouds on the horizon from my chair in the living room. The number of flashes intensified. The storm was far away so there were no discernible sounds of thunder. As things would have it, the sheet lightning I’d originally observed turned to direct strikes on the landscape. Here are the images of multiple “blasts”. Thanks for looking. G
Badger, northern New Mexico. This badger is building a “set” in the middle of a meadow, strewn with wild flowers, in northern New Mexico. It has taste in locations, the setting was stunning. Pami spotted dirt flying in the air from a hole in the ground. We were going slow, as we drove along the rain muddied road, or we may have missed this outstanding creature. I made a number of images before it was done digging, before it disappeared down the hole. I’ve seen three of these animals over the years, one alive in England, one dead at the side of the road in England, and this magnificent specimen. This badger made our hearts beat faster today.
