Blue Door, Garcia, Colorado

blue_door_garcia_colorado_0353_0354-2959161

Blue Door, Garcia, Colorado. What the road passes. A day trip around the block in southern Colorado. On this trip we made a big figure eight through the San Luis Valley. We stopped in Costilla and Garcia to photograph some of the abandoned homesteads. Directly over my shoulder, an abandoned Conoco gas station, formally owned by Mr. Cordova beckoned us. Marco pulled over. His dog, who was getting it’s exercise running behind the car, stopped and visited too! Marco told us that, when he was eight years old, he would trade Mr. Cordova a handful of pennies for a handful of bubble gum! I love my job and the people I meet. Join me for what is fast becoming the most popular of my photography tour/workshops. From spectacular scenery to subtle scenes like this one. I hope to see you out this way soon. Thanks for looking. Winter Field, San Luis Valley

Winter field at the red barn, on a photo tour today in the San Luis Valley. This is the sun faded windward side of the barn, not so red anymore. The leeward side still retains its red patina of peeling paint. The temperature said 22 degrees fahrenheit. The windchill was at least 20 degrees lower. The weather made for some stunning imagery despite the cold temperatures. Join me on a photo tour/workshop. Thanks for looking. G

Barley Silos, Bountiful, Colorado

Barley silos, and grain elevator in the hamlet of Bountiful, Colorado. The sign (I’m paraphrasing) reads, “all the barley is for the Coors brewing company”. The community of Bountiful is on the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, between Romeo to the south and La Jara to the north. It was great day out on a photo tour in the San Luis Valley exploring old homesteads, ruins, farms and barns, with hawks and eagles. Heading up there again tomorrow on another photo tour . Thanks for looking. G

Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Ghost Ranch, the landscape of Georgia O’Keeffe Abiquiu, New Mexico. I never ever tire of this view. If it looks familiar that’s because it has be seen in many movies. A few of the movies are “City Slickers” (the first one) along with “Silvarado” and the remake of “The Magnificent Seven” which wasn’t as magnificent as the original. Thanks for looking. G

Church Yard, Grave Marker, New Mexico

trampas_church_bw_3346-7949208

Church yard, grave marker, Las Trampas, on the High Road to Taos, New Mexico. I made this toned black and white from an older color image. I like the way the brightness of the high desert light reflected off the ground on to the ornate, filigree design of the cross with the rim light setting off the edges of the stone. Those two little clouds caught my attention as I laid on the ground in the old church yard. Thanks for looking. G

Church Of San Francisco, Colorado

Church of San Francisco, San Francisco, Colorado. I love finding new places, to me, that is. Venturing in another direction off the beaten path. We are slowly working our away around the very southern part of the state of Colorado. Frankly, this part of Colorado looks more like it should be a part of New Mexico. It’s as if the borders were drawn too far south or not far enough north. Thanks for looking. G

Stretch Gate With Snow Melt

stretch_gate_snow_melt_7640-8536800

Stretch gate with snow melt, at the Taos Pueblo Reservation, on the road to Arroyo Hondo. There will probably be more from this location, down the road, as it’s my version of Monet’s hay stack series. Please indulge me. Yesterday the snow melted and filled the cattle guard. Today, temperatures didn’t rise much above 27 degrees fahrenheit. Thanks for looking. G

San Antonio Mountain Cloud

San Antonio Mountain with a cloud, on the New Mexico, Colorado state line. We were heading north for a short evening drive. This cloud was coursing over the volcanic plateau, keeping up with my driving. When the cloud was positioned directly over San Antonio Mountain I pulled over and made this image. This mountain is an extinct volcano and is the largest free standing mountain in the 48 states. The plateau is dotted with many old volcanoes, and lava cones. This area is a beautiful part of our state with great subject matter for photography. It is featured on my San Luis Valley photo tours. Thanks for looking. G

Culvert, Adobe Shadows, San Cristobal

Culvert, with adobe shadows in the village of San Cristobal. Sometimes I take a walk through the village to pick up the mail and say “hello” to those I meet. I wave at a passing car and snap a few photos with the iPhone. I’ve been fascinated for some time with this culvert in the field of a neighbor. I’m sure the fascination with this scene will continue. Thanks for looking. G

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day. Heart on the old gas station in Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico. I was thinking about subject matter for an art project. When I drove by this building, I got an appropriate photo of the day and a few other shots for my art project. Seven years with my love. Have a great Valentines day with your loved ones.
