Kokopelli, Monument Valley

Kokopelli, Monument Valley. Stopped at one of the vendors and spotted this view through the rear of his stall where he sells his arts and crafts to the tourists. I have a whole photo essay and perhaps more than a lot to say reflecting on comments made to me by a number of the people we met in Monument Valley. Read more on Kokopelli here. Thanks for looking. Yucca Plant, Monument Valley, Utah

Yucca plant, amidst a “forrest” of yuccas in Monument Valley, Utah. I’ve visited this most beautiful place a hundred times and it is always magical. I’m not an authority on the place but this is the first time I’ve seen so many yucca plants. Not only yuccas but so many other desert wildflowers are everywhere in this southwest super bloom year. Thanks for looking. G

White House Ruin, Canyon De Chelly, AZ

White House Ruin in Canyon De Chelly National Monument, Arizona. It was wonderful and cool standing in the shadows of the White House Ruin in Canyon de Chelly today. It’s obvious to see why the original inhabitants built the dwellings where they did. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Take a tour some day with the guides at Beauty Way Jeep Tours. They will share their stories and home with you. Thanks for looking. G

Lamy, New Mexico Train Depot

Lamy, New Mexico train depot luggage wagon with chile ristra. Things change and the Santa Fe Southern train station now serves coffee and home brews. The Chili Line Brewing Co. opened this weekend for business. The folks running it are delightful and if you are in the area stop in and visit the Lamy depot, step back in time and enjoy a hand crafted beer on tap. Even if you’re not catching the train to anywhere, it’s worth a visit. Things change and this feels like one for the better. Thanks for looking. G

Zig Zag, Morning Shadows, Las Vegas, NM

Zig Zag, morning shadows, in downtown Las Vegas, NM. There are a lot of quirky elements in Las Vegas to incorporate in to images. Shadows form at all times of day. We spent a good part of the day ducking in and out of alleys and doorways thrilled by the surprises we found around the next staircase, building façade, and colonnade. Thanks for looking. G

Rattlesnake At Fort Union, NM

Rattlesnake on the trail/walkway at Fort Union, NM. The ranger said they hadn’t seen one in a long while, physically on the trail. I have a lot of respect for these creatures. It didn’t warn us with a rattle, the air temps were still cool. Rattlesnakes become lethargic when it is cold, so they exhibit a near narcoleptic state, but it seems they still exude energy because I certainly picked up on it! For that I am grateful. The ranger warned other visitors, some with young children, that the snake had been spotted and to be aware. Note the way the snake blends beautifully with its environment. Thanks for looking. G
