Winter Evening In The San Cristobal Valley

san_cristobal_valley_cropped_9335_9339-8206621

Winter evening and sunset in the San Cristobal valley. My twenty minute commute from Taos to home is not really anything like a commute, with stop and go traffic, more a delightful way to spend the time listening to some tunes on the iPod and take in the ever changing winter evening light on the landscape. During those twenty minutes there is always time to stop and stare and make an image, if only for the record that implants it in memory. A poem below. Thanks for looking. G

Leisure

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Young Bighorn Sheep, Rio Grande Gorge

big_horn_sheep_0045-7954805

Young Bighorn sheep in the Orilla Verde Recreation Area of the Rio Grande Gorge. Beautiful drive today along the High Road to Taos. Picnic in an alpine meadow above Truchas with a couple of Alpaca onlookers, in 55 degree temperatures. Returning home through Dixon and the Orilla Verde RA, in the Rio Grande Gorge we encountered a number of young bighorns. This one bolted up out of the steep cliffs below us to the east and across the road, only to stop on the west side of the dirt road and pose right next to us, for a number of images, before moseying off grinding on sage brush shoots. A good day! Thanks for looking. G

Perigee, Blue Moon, Eclipse

Perigee, Blue Moon, Eclipse. The view from Arroyo Hondo, across the Volcanic Plateau in northern New Mexico this morning. I know the plateau is void in this image but as the sky lightened slightly the faint outline of extinct and dormant volcanoes added to the continuum of this ancient happening. Thanks for looking. G

Red Canoe Arroyo Hondo

Red Canoe, on the winter pond in Arroyo Hondo. A beautiful warm sunny day in this corner of the planet today. Started out at 19 degrees fahrenheit and climbed to 56 degrees fahrenheit by mid afternoon… at the end of January. Too warm for a jacket. I thought this canoe warmed up this scene, I drive by a few times each week, very nicely. Thanks for looking. G
